Northern Ireland U23 Report - 08 June 2005The annual match with the Irish Universities Team produced a staggering 21 personal bests.
Unfortunately there are too many to list all the performances, however, there are a few performances that should be highlighted.
Linzi Herron jumped 1.70 to move equal second in the GB under 17 rankings. Linzi also competed in the long jump as a guest and set a PB of 5.28 placing second behind Northern Ireland U23 winner Mandy Gault who won with 5.37. Caolan Flanagan jumped an impressive 2.06 in the mens high jump to equal his personal best and had two good attempts at 2.10.
The endurance athletes also had a good evening with Lyndsey Freel winning the 1500m in a PB of 4.43.20 and Rachel Gibson who is still under 15 placing 3rd in a PB of 4.56.25. The 3000m saw Ruth Gillespie and Danielle Fegan run well to set new PBs.
There should have been a Northern Ireland Record from Rhiannon McNally of 50.80m in the women's hammer. This will however, be the second time Rhiannon has been denied the opportunty of a NI Record due to the lack of graded officials which is unbelievable at an international meeting. Rhiannon will hopefully repeat her recent good form at the Northern Ireland Championships where the required graded officials will be present.
