NI CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - 06 February 2006The highlight of the Domestic Cross Country season takes place at the University of Ulster Coleraine this Saturday. The course is one of the best on the local circuit. The Senior Women's race over 6k race gets underway at 2.20pm with the Mens 12k race at 3pm.
The ladies race could be hard to predict with most of the protagonists having lengthy injury lay-off's throughout the Winter. 2005 Champion was Jill Shannon (lagan- valley), and the team race battle should again be between Lagan Valley and the City of Derry.
Reigning Men's champion is Stevie Cairns (Annadale). Team-mate Paddy Hamilton has had an excellent winter; but fit-again Joe McAlister (St Malachys, double Irish 10k champion) will go into the race as a warm-favourite. St Malachys team may add further interest to the annual battle for supremacy between Annadale Striders and Willowfield Temperance Harriers.
