weekend round-up - 12 February 2006Joe McAlister and Jill Shannon were comfortably winners of the NI and Ulster XC Championships at the UU Coleraine on Saturday. City Of Derry took the Mens team titke for the first ever time, whilst Lagan Valley retained the Ladies title.
In Arkansas Gareth Turnbull was probably in one of the highest quality races of his life when finding the early pace too fast finishing eighth over 3k in 8m09secs. Catherine Crawford set a seasons best over 60h in Seattle finishing second in 8.67.
Brendan McConville began his preparations for the Commonwealth Games with a good series of results in the blistering heat of Perth, Western Australia.100 - 11.43, Hj - 1.95,400 - 49.70,Discus - 37.14 ,PV - 4.50.
Eva Massey finished third at the AAA's indoors in Sheffield in the womens shot putt with 15m22. Paul Brizzel had an unfortunate weekend in the sprints going out in the 60m in 6.99secs; before being disqualified for a lane infringement when winning his heat of the 200m. Gareth Hill was our other competing athlete finishing 6th in his heat of the 1500m in 3m56.
