The SPAR Grand Prix 10K series 2010 has come to an end, with the final race, the SPAR Laganside 10K, taking place last Sunday, starting from the Ormeau Embankment Belfast. The SPAR 10K Series is organised by governing body Athletics Northern Ireland.
The course covered a large and small lap off a circuit which takes in Ormeau Embankment, Ravenhill road, Short Strand, Queens Bridge, Oxford Street, Mays Meadow, Maysfield, Lagan towpath and Ormeau Bridge. On the second lap runners went over the Albert Bridge to Maysfield were they rejoined the first lap.
The supporting fun run was held in the safety of the Ormeau Park proved to be a great success, with fun runners taking part in anticipation of completing the 10K one day!
Matt Shields, Race Director commented, “The SPAR Laganside 10K was once again a fantastic race this year, it turned out to be a nice day for running and the event went smoothly. We had a good turnout this year and were very happy with the improved facilities this year, provided at the Ozone Hall, by Belfast City Council It was great to also get our younger budding athletes involved, encouraging them to keep fit and active, by participating in the fun run! They are our stars of the future!
Congratulations to all who took part in the 10K and also the fun run, and hope we see you all again next year!”
Brian Campbell from Willowfield TH triumphed, coming first in the fantastic time of 32.01, with the first female winner, Gladys Ganiel O’Neill, from Abbey AC, coming in with the superb time of 36.46, so well done to both!
