Activities Offered by Clubs
Athletics can be divided in to three main areas - Track & Field, Cross Country & Road Running and Mountain Running.
Track & Field - This covers any running, jumping or throwing events that take place at an athletics track. Where there is not a local track clubs may use pitches, leisure centres etc. to train.
Cross Country - These are races that take place on non-athletics track/tarmac surfaces, for example forest trails, pitches, general country terrain.
Road Running - Self explanatory, the most common distance is 10k although races in the calendar vary from 1 mile to the marathon.
Mountain Running - Also self explanatory, this takes cross country to the next level, running over challenging terrain including steep inclines, drops and rocky ground.
To find out which clubs offer your preferred activity, click on the above link to the club list. For information on mountain running please contact NIMRA (the NI Mountain Running Association), also listed in the above database.
Other Ways To Get Involved
If you would like to get involved in athletics but don't necessarily want to
take part, why not get involved in coaching or officiating?
If you would like to work with your local club in developing athletes and bringing them through the ranks, then why not turn your hand to coaching?
There would be no competitions for athletes to go to without officials, and we always need more volunteers to help at events. If you would be interested in assisting at events such as the Irish Indoor Athletics Championships at the Odyssey and our International Cross Country as well as helping clubs with their events through the year, then officiating could be for you.
Athletics Northern Ireland run courses through UK Athletics in both coaching and officiating. Information and application forms for upcoming courses are available in the courses section.
Information for Affiliated Clubs
Annual Dues
-
Club affiliation and athlete registrations are payable annually.
-
Affiliation (club registration to ANI) is £100 due on 1st April each year.
-
Athlete Registration (individuals' registrations to ANI) is due on 1st January each year (see rates above)
The athletics office does not send invoices for automatic payments such as affiliation, registrations or permit fees as by affiliating to Athletics Northern Ireland you agree to pay these on time each year. Reminders are given in the monthly mail-outs, which your secretary receives.
Necessity to invoice will incur a £5 admin fee, which will be added on. The same applies for club entry fees for events that do not reach the office before the competition date.
Monthly Mail Outs
These generally come out around the end of each month, although may vary depending on what's coming up. Mail outs are the official notice to clubs about payment dues, event closing dates, etc. so further reminders will not be given. However, most information is available on the website, which is updated daily.
Mail Outs contain important information, so please ensure your secretary will pass the items on.
