Photo Finish Officials Courses

The Photo Finish Officials qualifications are available for anyone aged 16 or over who is interested in officiating at Track events and has an interest in technology. The latest photo finish camera and softward is used to determine race positions and times.

Track & Field Officials Pathway

Level 1 Photo Finish 

Available for anyone 16 years or older who is interested in officiating at Track events using the photo finish technology. The course will last around 3 hours and will cover the following topics:

• Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Photo-Finish Judge and the tasks pertaining to them.
• Understand how a photo finish picture is created.
• Be able to interpret a picture effectively and produce a correct result.

Next Steps

• Gain a minimum of four competition experiences
• Ensure you have uploaded your licence photo to the myAthletics portal (head shot on a white background).
• Complete an Access NI check
• Complete the self-taught Safeguarding module
• Complete the self-taught Health and Safety module module (FREE).
• Complete the Level 1 application form and send to officials@athleticsni.org
